Mount Treskavica/Трескавица (pronounced "treskavitsa") adjoins Mount Bjelašnica to the southwest. It is divided between the Federation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo and Konjic cantons) and the Bosnian Serb Republic (municipalities of Istočno Sarajevo and Kalinovik). The most convenient access village is Turovi/Турови (about 140 inhabitants, all Bosniaks), in the Bosnian Serb Republic. Turovi is 3.5 km southwest of Trnovo and 29 km southeast of Sarajevo airport. No direct bus connection. This is the highest mountain in the Sarajevo region: the Treskavica massif reaches 2,088 m in altitude at Mount Mala Ćaba (or Đokin Toranj), that is, only 300 m less than the highest point in the country, Mount Maglić. There are also three other high peaks: the Pašina Planina (2,070 m above sea level), Mali Treskač (1,950 m) and Mount Ilijaš (1,879 m). Rich in water, Mount Treskavica is home to small lakes and numerous springs, including those of the Bistrica (a tributary of the Drina), the Željeznica (which joins the Bosna), as well as those of the Ljuta and Rakitnica (Neretva basin). The massif is not very popular and does not have a ski resort, but it is popular for its hiking trails, which have almost all been demined since 2010. During the last war, it was the scene of bitter fighting, with the small neighboring town of Trnovo, which controlled access to Goražde (eastern Bosnia).
