This picturesque medieval town was a stronghold of the Patriarchs of Aquileia until the mid-18th century. Its old center, well restored, is partly bounded by the old moat. It can be reached after passing through one of the three city gates, reminders of the ancient walls that protected it. One of these, the Torre Raimonda, leads to the charming Piazza del Popolo, lined with porticoes and dominated by the 73-meter high campanile of the Duomo. The city has several palaces, churches with a rich painted heritage, the Teatro Arrigoni, an Italian-style theater, and the castle, decorated with 15th and 18th century frescoes.
