This town of Roman origin developed under the jurisdiction of the Patriarch of Aquileia. Its Roman remains are beautifully preserved and Sesto al Reghena is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The Benedictine abbey is the place to be. Sesto al Reghena is located about half an hour's drive south of Pordenone, on the road to Venice and Trieste. The city reached its peak between the 11th and 15th centuries. The abbots of Sesto had many ecclesiastical and civil jurisdictions, especially in western Friuli. Today, in a nod to history, the town hall occupies the former residence of the abbots.
