Saillon (population 2,600) is a fortified village in the Valais, above which stands the Bayard Tower, a 13th-century building built away from the now ruined castle on a nearby hill. Another notable building overlooks the village: the parish church of Sainte-Catherine et Saint-Laurent, built in 1740 and enlarged in 1925, with a pretty medieval garden. Known for its thermal centre, Saillon is also home to the Farinet museum, named after a famous Swiss forger of the 19th century, the Farinet vineyard, described as the smallest in the world, and further on, above the Salentze gorges where Farinet died, the footbridge... to Farinet.
