Hospental (180 inhabitants - alt. 1493 m.) was the most important village in the Understal valley in the days of the muleteers. Today, the proximity of the Andermatt resort and the Gotthard Pass have made it a popular tourist destination. The house and chapel of St. Charles (18th century) are worth seeing at the southern entrance to the village. A little further back, you can see the Tower of the Masters. Property of the monastery of Disentis, it was built during the first half of the 13th century and served as a residential tower until the 15th century. Only the moat on the west side remains of the former large wall. The ruins can be visited.
