Situated in an exceptional green setting, between the cliffs of the Mont d'Or and the Dent de Vaulion, Vallorbe is not lacking in charm. This small town of 3,300 inhabitants, which prospered from the end of the 13th century onwards around the iron industry, later became famous for its locks and files, a reputation that continues to this day. 3 km to the south, towards the Mont d'Orzeires pass (alt.1,061 m.) and Lake Joux, are the Vallorbe caves and, a little further on, the Juraparc animal park. Five kilometres to the east, via the Route de Lausanne and perched at an altitude of 1,000 metres, the Pré-Giroux fort is the other major attraction in the area.
