In the south of the island, you'll find the deserted former capital Megalo Horio, Koutalas and Megalo Livadi. Until the turn of the century, these three villages flourished thanks to their iron and copper mines, which employed 2,500 workers from all over Greece and Italy. A staggering number when you consider that the island of Serifos today has just 1,200 inhabitants! While you're there, don't forget to take the road between Livadi and Koutalas via Ramos, where sheltered, unspoilt beaches dot the coastline. And, above all, the bay of Kalo Ambéli offers one of the island's finest panoramas and beaches.
