The village adjoins the Monmouthshire Canal, which runs from Newport to Brecon. This was an essential route for transporting coal to Newport. From the village park, it's a five-minute walk to Pontymoile Basin, from which several canal-side footpaths start. Now a popular spot for walkers and cyclists, it also boasts a number of pleasant places for a drink and a bite to eat. The navigable canal is also very popular with yachtsmen, and cruises are open to the public from the basin. As you'll see in town, two public monuments are dedicated to the "chartists".
