Near Kufstein, the small, tranquil village of Ebbs is renowned as the home of the Haflinger, a breed of horse native to the Tyrol, whose chestnut coat, silky mane and energetic trot can be admired at the Fohlenhof stud farm. Monument lovers won't want to miss a visit to the cathedral, an 18th-century Baroque gem whose bulbous bell tower dominates the rooftops. Ebbs is also one of the gateways to the Kaisergebirge nature reserve, accessible via the 285 steps of the Kaiseraufstieg, leading hikers into an unspoilt setting of alpine pastures, forests and rocky peaks.
