While Lutsen, a hamlet of 200 souls, is a good starting point for exploring the area, it can be more than a stopover town while exploring the North Shore. In the summer, it's a great place to stay for its many hikes and its proximity to the Superior National Forest. The Superior Hiking Trail, a 310-mile hiking trail that connects Duluth to the Canadian border, passes through here. In winter, you can enjoy its ski resort, the largest in the Midwest. It stays open until mid-April thanks to the area's excellent snow cover. Lutsen is also home to a beautiful hotel, the Lutsen Resort, in the heart of a privileged natural setting
