Grand Portage is a site of national significance, particularly for the Ojibwe Indian community. It tells the story of the fur trade in these remote areas. Since 2007, an exhibit center has been telling this story in collaboration with the local Grand Portage tribe. A 19th century fur depot has been reconstructed and can be visited from May to November only. Before visiting the site, stop by the Heritage Visitor Center, which is open daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. You will find all the practical information you need and can stock up on brochures and maps.
