Concord may not be the state's most populous city, but it is home to New Hampshire's capitol, the oldest in the United States. In 1808, it was decided that Concord would become the state's seat of government. Its central location and access to Boston by sea made it the capital of choice. Concord stretches along both sides of the Merrimack River, with its center on the left bank. As you stroll along, you'll come across a number of houses dating back to the 18th century. Concord is also known for its white granite, which was used to construct some of the city's historic buildings, including the capitol.
