Canterbury Shaker is a historic site and museum created in 1969 to preserve the legacy of the Canterbury Shakers. The village consists of 25 shaker buildings and 350 hectares of woodland, gardens and maintained trails. The site, which is 1 hour 15 minutes from Portsmouth, is absolutely magnificent, especially in autumn. It must be said that the aim of the independent Shakers communities across the country was to make these villages paradises on earth. The exceptional quality of their craftsmanship and some of their inventions have made their reputation around the world. The village of Canterbury was founded in 1792. At its peak, in 1850, it had a population of 300 people
