El Hoyo culminates at 1 050 meters high and its last eruption dates back to 1954. It is readily recognised because it has a big hole on one of its slopes (visible from the Laguna del Tiger for example). It is not a crater but a zone of collapse, certainly following the collapse of an old chimney of the volcano, empty since the last eruption. Hikes, for example, proposed by Quetzaltrekker, allow to reach the steep slopes of the volcano; It is also possible to go there.
