This small village is world-famous for its clay ceramics, an art that dates back to pre-Columbian times. In fact, the village was a hotbed of Chorotega settlement. Once known as San Juan de los Platos ("San Juan of the Dishes"), because of the countless rustic ceramics produced here, the village enjoyed a second artistic lease of life (after some five hundred years of dearth) from 1978 onwards, following the Sandinista revolution, when an association of 11 craftsmen was created, which today has become a school. You'll find some beautiful handicrafts here.Buses regularly pass the village entrance from Masaya.
