Ashalim is a moshav located about 35 km south of Beersheva. It was founded in 1979. It is known for its gigantic solar power plant, the extension of which on both sides of road No. 211 is expected to be completed by 2020. Over 50,000 computer-controlled mirrors will reflect sunlight to a boiler placed at the top of a 240-meter tower. The steam produced will be routed to a steam generator to generate electricity. Eventually, the plant will have a production capacity of 121 MW. The French company Alstom is largely involved in the realization of this extension. Near the Moshav, there is also the agronomic research center of Ramat Negev.
