Halfway between Olot and Santa Coloma de Farners, this is a town whose medieval past is still very much alive: the former Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria dating from the 10th century and now the town's parish church; the square square in the town centre with its carved arcades or the Roca-Salva tower bear witness to the sumptuous Bitter Era. The old train station, which also serves as a tourist office, is the terminus of the via verda "el Carrilet" (www.viesverdes.cat), and it is probably by bicycle that you will reach the town, after a good rash of volcanic water emerging from Font Picant.
