Located in the valley of the river Tirso, Ottana would have been founded at the time of the Nuraghic civilization. For this reason, the town is rich in archaeological sites, including domus of janas, nuraghes and tombs of giants. But what makes Ottana so popular is its important carnival and its typical cake, the S'Angule, which was once an ex-voto. Celebrated on the third Sunday of May, the festival's particularity lies in the making of a delicate cake made of semolina, honey and saffron. This round cake, which has become a religious symbol, was originally a pagan expression intended to thank the earth for its generosity.
