An ancient tuna station and popular holiday resort west of the eponymous cape. It is said that it was Charlemagne himself who named the town during his journey to the Holy Land, deeming it worthy of bearing the name of his proud French paladin, Roland (Orlando). The ruins of the original castle are still visible. The city is the capital of the region of the Nebrodi Mountains. Do not miss the sanctuary of Santa Maria (via Tripoli). Built in 1599 in recognition of Count Naso for a miracle that happened in his family, a pilgrimage to the Virgin was organized and the silver statue kept in the place of worship was brought there. The view is splendid.
