This town of 5,000 inhabitants was colonized by the Lombards in the 11th century. The influence of this is still perceptible in the French-Italian dialect of the inhabitants. The second original feature of this town is the "Festival of the Jews", which takes place during Holy Week. This event represents the joy of the Jews at the news of the death sentence of Jesus Christ. For the final procession (on Good Friday), men in disguise march past playing trumpets. They are dressed in red, wearing masks, pendants and fur shoes, which were once used by shepherds. A festival that is not to the taste of Catholics!
