While Florenville is the liveliest village in the area, with a number of interesting restaurants and bars, two other towns are also worth a visit: Chiny, 6 km to the north, and above all Orval, 8 km to the south, home to the famous abbey of the same name. Founded in the 11th century, it is nestled in a superb site and produces its own Trappist beer and cheese. Trappist beer from Orval was created in 1931, to replace the income generated by the forge that existed in the time of Charles Quint. This now-famous beer, a new type for its time, was brewed by two lay brewmasters, one Belgian and one German.
