A jewel of beauty and mystery, Montmédy is famous for its extremely well-preserved Renaissance citadel. One of the largest structures in north-eastern France, it was built during the reign of Charles V and redesigned in the 12th century by Vauban and Séré de Rivière. Once over the two drawbridges, you'll embark on a romantic escapade, where every pavement is steeped in history. Discover the squares, churches (including Saint-Martin, a Monument Historique) and artists' studios nestling in the casemates. Take the "chemin des remparts", where charming panoramas await you, especially at sunset and sunrise, shrouded in mist.
