Here you are only 15 minutes away from Salzburg. The small town of Anif, with a population of only about 4,000, is well worth a visit. The town is known for having been the home of the famous conductor Herbert von Karajan. He lived in Anif and died in 1989. Anif is also famous for its neo-Gothic and romantic 16th century castle on the water (Wasserschloss). It was the setting for some of the scenes in the 1965 film masterpiece The Sound of Music. That's how magical the atmosphere is! Some of the film's lovers come here as pilgrims.
