This place is known for its monastery. It is an important religious, cultural and spiritual centre. This abbey, founded in 1163 by the Augustinian order, stands on an isolated hillock. The monastery of Vorau has always been occupied, without interruption, by canons who follow the rule of St Augustine. As soon as you enter the gateway, you get a feeling of peace. It is pleasant to walk through the conventual buildings, whose harmony and facade decorated with fine stucco and flanked by the two towers of the abbey church, are appreciated. Nearby you can visit the ecomuseum and the Freilichtmuseum.
