Travel Guide Hardegg

A charming little tourist town separated from the Czech Republic by the Thaya River and linked by a single bridge. Highlights include the Riegersburg Palace and Burg Castle. The highlights of this12th-century castle are the collection of weapons belonging to the Khevenhüller-Metsch family, who have owned the castle since 1730 (the collection can be viewed with a guide, booking required), and the Maximilian Museum in Mexico, brother of Franz Joseph. Please note, however, that both the palace and the castle are currently closed to the public. The village also attracts nature lovers, as it lies on the edge of the Thayatal National Park.
