Hsinchu, the capital of the district, radiates more by its economic activity than by its tourist attractions. As the country's Silicon Valley, the city has been home to Science Park since 1980, Taiwan's leading electronics research and industry centre - the second is in the south, in Tainan - bringing together 350 companies. And yet, Hsinchu is the second oldest city north of Taiwan. Spending a day there can allow you to discover a less touristy side of Taiwan. Today it is essentially a gateway to the attractions of the region: the natural parks in the east of the province, from where you can admire the foothills of the central mountain range, but also the hakka village of Beipu.
