Located halfway between Slidell and Mandeville on Highway 190, the community of Lacombe saw its first European settlers in the 18th century. The descendants of the original settlers celebrate All Saints Day annually by decorating and lighting the graves in the old cemeteries in a ceremony called "Les Toussaints les Lumieres du Morte". Otherwise, the small town is best known as the gateway to the Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, a national conservation area located south of Mandeville along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. A beautiful stopover just a stone's throw from the Cane, Castine and Lacombe bayous.
