The small village of Martuni (not to be confused with its namesake to the south of the lake) can be reached from Chambarak by a forest-lined road that foreshadows northern Armenia. Nestled on the green slopes of Mount Murguz (2,993m), the village, where the remains of a 10th-century fort and a 13th-century church can be seen, no longer belongs to the lakeside and 'seaside' world of Sevan. The site offers a taste of the forest region of Izhevan, located at the end of the road, 40 km to the north! Beware, the border with Azerbaijan runs along the ridge line, and even if the landscapes invite you, do not give in to the temptation of hiking!
