Martouni is at the southern end of the road along the west bank. If the road sometimes deviates from the lake, one will not resist the temptation to take a dip in its turquoise waters, in summer of course. To do so, you will have to cross the large wooded areas along the shores to discover the long wild sandy beaches which, more than anywhere else, distil maritime impressions. The Sevan reaches its widest point here and you can barely make out the mountains opposite, 50 km away. The water is a dark blue, you have to swim in it (19°C in summer) and have taken the cup literally and figuratively (the locals use the lake to quench their thirst) to dissipate the maritime illusion. It is indeed very soft, and one feels as in a swimming pool, chlorine less. Towards the south, the parks along the shore are more dense, but there is no seaside resort. Martouni is not really equipped to welcome tourists. Formerly located on the lakeside, this large agricultural town is more interested in cattle breeding than in tourists.
