Continuing a few kilometres further east on the same small road that overhangs the main road between Martouni and Vardénis, one reaches the place called Varténik, so called because it is situated at the foot of the almost eponymous mountains. This hamlet can also be visited for its cemetery, which contains many funerary steles, some of which date from the 13th century and are very elaborate. The village allows a panoramic view of the lake in all its length and an immersion in the austere and harsh rural life of the Lake Sevan basin.
