Vardénis is a large agricultural village at the south-eastern tip of the lake, from which it is a little out of the way, and is of very limited interest. But one can stop there to complete the tour of the lake by following the eastern shore towards the north, or to go to Karabagh, or take advantage of it to explore the flanks of the Vardénis mountains, as far as the villages of Makénis (monastery of the 9th century) and Dachkend (chapel and khatchkars).
