This municipality owes its growth to the generosity of the geography which makes this site a place of passage. The country has benefited from a fertile land. Its wheat made a living for many farmers, especially after the reclamation of the Tilles marsh in the second half of the 17th century. The economy was encouraged during the 19th century with the creation of market halls, the arrival of the steam engine and the installation of a station in 1854. From a tourist point of view, Genlis is an advantageous link between the Dijon agglomeration and the lands of the Saône Valley or those, just as close, of the vineyards of the Côte de Nuits.
