It is a hamlet of about 300 inhabitants which depends on the municipality of Castro Urdiales. A walk along the coastline allows us to discover the Cala de Cotonera, a pleasant cove protected from the winds, the charming Puerto de Arenillas and the beach of the same name, not very big but pleasant and calm, and also a very popular spot for surfers. Just on the other side of the Rio Agüera estuary, the beach of Oriñón unfolds its large strip of sand often very popular with tourists. A totally different atmosphere, overcrowded in summer. In the 16th century, Islares housed a hospice for pilgrims, the ruins of which can be seen. Some shops and restaurants.
