Straddling the border between Vizcaya and Alava, this massif of over 20,000 hectares played a very important role in the history of both provinces. One of its key features is the great diversity of its flora, especially its trees, some of which are listed for their ecological interest and unique character. The park is also home to a wide variety of fauna (deer, marten, etc.). In addition, excavations carried out on the site have uncovered vestiges dating back to the Paleolithic period, including stone-carved tools. You can start your visit from Sarria, a few kilometers from Murguia, where you'll find the park's interpretation center, which will provide you with all the information you need to explore the site. At the heart of the park lies Mount Gorbeia, at 1,480 m. If you're feeling sporty, you can climb it from the village of Morua. Along the way, you can visit the Mairuelegorreta caves, whose 12 km-long labyrinth of galleries is the stuff of many local legends.
