Travel Guide Markina-Xemein

Markina-Xemein was founded in the 14th century and was the birthplace of famous Basque pelota players. A former defensive town, it still has a fortified center and interesting Baroque and Renaissance buildings. The Patrokua Palace, from the 18th century, is worth a visit. The hermitage of San Miguel de Arretxinaga is also worth a visit to admire the three large rocks that form a chapel around the archangel Saint Michael.
