The Desierto de Los Leones is the name of a forest area located west of the capital that has been declared a national park. This is a good place to spend the afternoon if you want to take a green bath, walk in the forest or ride on mountain trails. If you come with your vegetables, meat and coal, you can even make a barbecue with your friends on the grids that are made available to the public! In addition, the Desierto de los Leones houses a beautiful th century convent, the Convent Santo Desierto of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, built by the order of carmelite monks. You can visit the rooms where the library, the dining hall, the monks'cells, and even the underground passages were installed, which allows us to imagine how religious life occurred in colonial times. It was because of this convent that the zone is called Desierto de Los Leones, because the carmelite monks used to name "desert" where they withdrew to pray and meditate. The convent is surrounded by 9 small constructions where the monks came to isolate themselves from the world and meditate. They can be reached after a pleasant walk in the forest.
