Created in 1975 on 42 469 hectares, this park contains indices of the presence of indigenous populations in the pre-Hispanic period. It protects the ultimate portion of the Pacific Tropical Forest in Central America. Interference between terrestrial and marine ecosystems gives this park an abundant biodiversity. A rich and diverse fauna in this park, there are some threatened specimens such as the cougar, jaguar, tapir or crocodile that live there among the 500 species of trees.
