At 6 km from Cajamarca and 2,667 meters above sea level, Pultumarka or "hot water" in Quechua, as the Baños del Inca were called at that time, was the residence of Atahualpa before his tragic encounter with Pizarro. Today it is a small and rather ordinary town, but it has one of the most famous thermal water complexes in Peru. The waters of the pools that cool down before pouring into it gush out at nearly 70°C. The landscapes, deliciously bucolic, are superb. An obvious excursion to relax. So much so, in fact, that it is sometimes very crowded. We recommend that you go during the day and on weekdays.
