This small town was founded in the first years of the conquest. In an exceptional environment of mountains, 124 km from Cajamarca and at an altitude of 2,400 m, Cajabamba, clinging to the slope, has remained very colonial in appearance: small white houses with wooden balconies and a central square with a baroque church with two bell towers. The Diablos de Cajabamba animate the festival of the patron saint of the city on the first Sunday of October. Cultural heritage of the nation, this traditional dance was intended to honor the Virgen del Rosario as an act of devotion. Apart from this festival, the peaceful and quiet Cajabamba is rarely visited.
