Ideal for a stopover on the road to Kuélap and Chachapoyas, the city of Celendin is located 110 km from Cajamarca. Early integrated to the Inca Empire, the city is nevertheless Spanish with its streets drawn with the cord and its white church. The ruins of Oxamarca are nearby. Celendín is celebrated from July 15 to August 4. Although the inhabitants are whiter than elsewhere, the town is well known for its folklore and handicraft culture, including its woven straw hats. President Pedro Castillo, a native of the province of Chota, never takes his hat off. Particularly colorful and traditional markets on Sundays.
