The capital of the department Cajamarca is a small and charming city, located at an altitude of 2,750 meters, which has an undeniable charm. It owes it all to its location in the Cordillera, to its temperate climate (from 5 to 20 °C; dry from June to November) and to its history rich in major events. The traditions of dress and folklore are very much alive here. Its carnival (February-April) is the most famous of Peru. With its one-story casonas with tiled roofs and its beautiful churches, Cajamarca is one of the Peruvian cities with the best preserved colonial past, which has earned it the title of historical and cultural heritage of the Americas. The region often suffers from social tensions, which hinders its tourist development
