Located on the outskirts of Anchorage, this huge playground for city dwellers is in fact the third largest state park in Alaska, covering 200,000 hectares. You can hike, ski, fish, camp, kayak or canoe and of course observe the ever present wildlife. The park has many marked trails. If you take the Seward Highway south, you will drive along part of the park and there are many stops to enjoy the views. In the north, however, they are concentrated around the famous Eklutna Lake. Three campsites are scattered throughout the park, but there are hotels in Girdwood to the south.
