On the only road leading to Seward is the hamlet of Moose Pass with its 219 inhabitants. "Moose" means moose. In 1912, a camp was established here for the construction of the railroad. There are two conflicting stories about the origin of the name. In 1904, a certain Nate White would have counted the first of these animals in the area. In 1903, on the other hand, a postal convoy led by sled dogs had trouble making its way because of a giant moose... In any case, a post office was established in 1928 and the name Moose Pass was formalized. Today, its few residents enjoy hiking, fishing and cycling.
