This colony was founded following the 1929 stock exchange by Bishop Octave Caron, pastor of Cap-Chat. In the 1930 s, families settled gradually and the first post office was born in 1934. There were also stores, forges, saw mills, shingles mill, etc. In the summer of 1945, part of the colony was devastated by a severe fire and resulted in the first exodus. Despite efforts and willingness to continue development, a second major fire raged in 1958 and the exodus is accelerating. In April 1970, a ministerial order allowed for the closure of 10 so-called non-viable villages, including Saint-Octave, and the relocation of their population. This site is now the host of a recreation site: Village Grande Nature Chic-Chocs.
