The site owes its name to the animal that frequents its river. Some 250 inhabitants share the territory of this peaceful locality nestled against the sea, at the foot of the mountains. Apart from the gentle way of life, there is not much to see in La Martre, except for one thing: the lighthouse area. It's a mandatory stop on any self-respecting Gaspesian road trip ! This beautiful red wooden lighthouse dating from 1906 is open to visitors. The keeper's house, a shed and the foghorn shelter are also part of this cultural heritage site. Located overhanging the sea, it offers a simply magnificent panoramic view.
