Founded in 1911 and named in honour of Bishop Joseph-Thomas Duhamel (although he has no connection to the history of West Duhamel), this municipality is home to the Obadjiwan-Fort Témiscamingue National Historic Site, an important fur-trading crossroads for more than two hundred years, facing Lake Témiscamingue. Open to the public in the summer, it also bears witness to an Aboriginal presence that dates back more than 6,500 years. The view of the river from the site is fabulous and there is a small pebble beach. Otherwise, Duhamel-Ouest has two resorts for those looking for an outdoor hotel or a cozy cottage.
