Land of Grey Owl and the roof of Ontario, Temagami offers wilderness. At the foot of Ishpatina, British Archibald Belaney, better known as the Grey Owl, adopted Aboriginal culture and nurtured his passion for the environment before becoming one of the founders of the ecological movement. That was at the beginning of the 20th century. In the Ojibwe language, Temagami means "deep water near the shore. In fact, Lake Temagami can plunge up to 30 metres to within a few metres of the shoreline. In addition to its 1,200 islands, the lake offers about 20 canoe trips from Finlayson Point. The backcountry also teems with 2,600 km of canoe routes.
