Formerly known as "Long Sault," after the rapids of the same name along the Ottawa River, the town owes its existence to the arrival of the Riordon Pulp and Paper Co. in 1918. Designed along the lines of the British "garden cities", it was intended to create a pleasant living environment to encourage workers and their families to settle there. You can still admire the Anglo-Saxon architecture. For hikers and bikers, a linear trail leads to the Gordon Creek waterfall and from there, a pathway leads to a lookout point with views of downtown and the Ottawa River.
