Ville-Marie is the oldest community in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. This toponym honours the protection of the congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and underlines the determining role of this religious community in the colonization of the Temiscamingue region. A visit to the site of the Maison du Frère Moffet allows us to revisit this part of our history. At the east end of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Street, you will find a grotto similar to the one of the same name in France. Every year, hundreds of pilgrims gather there. A belvedere offers a superb view of the city and the lake, and there are paths available.
