Lake Pielinen, 70 km north of Joensuu, is the fifth largest lake in Finland. The majestic Koli site spreads out its majestic hills. This high rock formation is considered to be one of the most beautiful landscapes in Finland. See Ukko-Koli, which rises to 347 metres. At the top is the splendid Lake Pielinen, depicted in many famous Romantic paintings by numerous painters and poets, all of whom contributed to the awakening and renewal of the Finnish identity. Jean Sibelius is said to have had his grand piano transported to the summit of Koli on his honeymoon, so much did he appreciate the view.
